NCDHHS announces new dental health training program for adults with I/DD

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services today announced a new dental public health training program: Oral Health Training Program for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). The program, launched by NCDHHS’s Division of Public Health’s Oral Health Section, aligns with its mission to improve the oral health of North Carolinians and to support dental public health workforce development.

The $25 Summer Card pilot program operated by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) was successful in encouraging COVID-19 vaccination, according to a published research letter by authors from NCDHHS, the Advanced Center for COVID-19 Related Disparities (ACCORD) at the Julius L. Chambers Biomedical Biotechnology Research Institute at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), and the Departments of Biostatistics and of Health Behavior at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill).

Governor Cooper visits innovative apprenticeship pilot preparing students for clean energy jobs

Governor Roy Cooper visited Halifax Community College today to talk with 20 high school students and instructors who are part of North Carolina’s first Clean Energy Youth Apprenticeship Pilot, the Halifax Lighthouse Solar Camp. As North Carolina moves to a clean energy economy, skilled workers are needed to fill jobs and help the industry grow. Work-based learning activities such as apprenticeships help create a sustainable pipeline of qualified workers and provide educational and economic opportunities for students.
