Governor Cooper visits pharmacy to urge vaccinations and receive flu shot

RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper and State Health Director Betsey Tilson got their flu shot today at Health Park Pharmacy in Wake County and encouraged North Carolinians to get their COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot.

“A local pharmacy is a great place to get a safe and effective COVID vaccine as well as a flu shot,” said Governor Cooper. “It’s critical that people get these vaccines to protect themselves and slow the spread of the COVID virus as well as the flu.”

Health Park Pharmacy is a small, independent pharmacy. It was the third pharmacy in North Carolina to have access to vaccines, and they have administered more than 25,000 COVID-19 shots. The pharmacy has conducted community outreach to make vaccines accessible to everyone in the community.

“Our team and volunteers have been and continue to be focused on serving our community and getting as many shots in arms as possible,” said Steve Adkins, owner of Health Park Pharmacy. “This is truly the only chance we have at slowing this pandemic and relieving the stress on our healthcare systems.”

Last week, Governor Cooper and state health leaders sent an open letter to faith leaders asking for their help to reach North Carolinians who have not yet been vaccinated. The letter outlines actions that faith leaders can take including sharing information about vaccines and hosting vaccination events.

To date, North Carolina has administered more than 11.1 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 58 percent of the adult population fully vaccinated. Sixty-nine percent of adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine, including 90 percent of people 65 and over. Sixty-four percent of adults are fully vaccinated.

North Carolinians can learn more about the state’s vaccine distribution at myspot.nc.gov (English) or Vacunate.nc.gov (Spanish). Find a nearby vaccine provider using NCDHHS’ online tool, Find a Vaccine Location. The state’s COVID-19 vaccine hotline number is 888-675-4567.
