North Carolina election officials are meeting Friday as county boards begin distributing absentee ballots for the 2026 general election. State elections board reconvenes Friday

The State Board of Elections is scheduled to resume its Sept. 2 meeting remotely at 9 a.m. Friday. The original agenda includes appointments to fill vacancies on county boards of elections and consideration of numbered memoranda providing absentee-ballot guidance to county election officials. Numbered memoranda approved by the board provide binding administrative guidance to county boards. The meeting coincides with the first distribution of absentee ballots for the Nov. 3 general election.
