North Carolina officials are carrying out the terms of a multistate antitrust settlement and preparing for an upcoming meeting involving public water and wastewater funding.
Food banks receive eggs under antitrust settlement
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina received 270,000 eggs Tuesday under a settlement involving North Carolina, the U.S. Department of Justice, 16 other state attorneys general and three major egg producers. The government accused Cal-Maine, Hickman’s Family Farms and Versova of sharing information and coordinating bids from 2022 through 2025 to manipulate an industry price benchmark. The settlement requires the producers to donate approximately 50 million eggs nationally, stop the alleged coordination, implement compliance measures and cooperate with government oversight. Water Infrastructure Authority schedules Sept. 16 meeting
The State Water Infrastructure Authority will meet from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in Raleigh and online. The independent state body awards state and federal funding for drinking-water and wastewater projects, establishes priorities for loans and grants and helps develop the state’s water infrastructure plan.
