RALEIGH — Recent North Carolina state government activity includes several newly chaptered session laws, election rulemaking deadlines and additional statewide legislative updates.

Court and procedural changes become law
Senate Bill 648 became Session Law 2026-49 on July 8 after being signed by Gov. Josh Stein on July 7. The bill, titled “Winter Sports Safety and Accidents,” includes broad provisions involving courts, guardianship, settlement proceedings, juror training materials, court recordings, State Bar disciplinary authority and landlord-tenant attorney fee recovery. Wildlife Resources changes become law
House Bill 747 became Session Law 2026-43 on July 8. The bill is titled “2026 Wildlife Resources Changes” and includes statutes involving wildlife, boating, license plates, motor vehicles, conservation, hunting and fishing, safety equipment and the Wildlife Resources Commission. Absentee ballot rules hearing set for July 16
