RALEIGH — North Carolina state government activity Friday includes a legislative study meeting on driver’s-license suspensions, approaching election-rule deadlines and a change to the General Assembly’s prison-oversight schedule.
Driver’s-license committee meets Friday
The General Statutes Commission’s Committee on the Suspension and Restoration of Driver’s Licenses is scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, at the UNC School of Government in Chapel Hill.
The committee is listed on the North Carolina General Assembly’s official legislative calendar. The meeting concerns state laws governing the suspension and restoration of driving privileges.
Prison oversight meeting canceled
A meeting of the General Assembly’s Governmental Operations Subcommittee on Prisons that had been scheduled for July 16 has been canceled, according to the updated legislative calendar.
The calendar does not list a replacement date. The General Assembly’s next listed House and Senate sessions are scheduled for noon July 27.
Election-rule comments close July 14
The State Board of Elections is accepting public comments through Tuesday, July 14, on proposed rules involving absentee voting, photo identification, recounts and voting sites.
The rulemaking package was announced May 14. Comments may be submitted online, by email or by mail.
Absentee-voting hearing scheduled for July 16
The State Board of Elections has scheduled a new public hearing on proposed absentee-voting rules for 9 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at the board’s Raleigh office.
The hearing was scheduled after an earlier hearing date was changed. Written comments remain due July 14.
Campaign-finance rule comments remain open
Public comments remain open through Aug. 31 on four sets of proposed campaign-finance rules.
The proposals address building funds, campaign-finance complaints and investigations, reporting requirements and related administrative procedures. The State Board plans an in-person hearing at 10 a.m. Aug. 3 in Raleigh.
