North Carolina’s election-rule comment period closes today, the State Board of Elections prepares for a Thursday meeting and hearing, and the General Assembly remains largely inactive until later this month.

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina state government activity is relatively light Tuesday, but several election and legislative deadlines remain worth watching. Public comments close today on four sets of proposed election rules, the State Board of Elections is preparing for two events Thursday, and lawmakers are not scheduled to return for regular chamber sessions until July 27.

Public comment closes today on four sets of election rules

Tuesday, July 14, is the final day for public comments on proposed North Carolina election rules covering absentee voting, photo identification, recounts and voting sites.

The State Board of Elections opened the comment period May 15. After the comment period closes, the board may review comments and consider changes before adopting rules and submitting them to the Rules Review Commission.

State Board of Elections to meet Thursday

The State Board of Elections is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at its Raleigh offices.

The meeting notice was posted Monday.

Absentee-voting rules hearing scheduled for July 16

A public hearing on proposed absentee-voting rules is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at the State Board of Elections office in Raleigh.

The hearing was rescheduled after an earlier hearing date.

General Assembly chambers scheduled to return July 27

The North Carolina House and Senate are currently scheduled to reconvene at noon Monday, July 27.

A Governmental Operations Subcommittee on Prisons meeting scheduled for July 16 has been canceled. The committee is currently listed to meet July 27 after the chambers reconvene.
