Election officials complete a major rules meeting, state health officials track a foodborne illness increase and municipal candidate filing closes Friday.
RALEIGH — North Carolina’s statewide government calendar is relatively light Friday, July 17, following several major agency announcements Thursday. Election officials are completing rulemaking work for the November election, public-health officials are monitoring an increase in intestinal illness cases, and candidate filing closes for certain municipal contests.
Election board decision records awaited
The State Board of Elections met Thursday to consider permanent rules addressing voter identification, recounts, voting-site procedures and a campaign-finance exemption.
The official meeting agenda also included campaign-finance penalty waivers, complaints involving several county election-board members and updated guidance for county officials.
News reports indicate that the board approved several rule changes, including revisions affecting photo-identification exception affidavits submitted with absentee ballots. However, the State Board had not posted a detailed official decision summary early Friday.
Because the final language and vote records have not been posted through an official direct source, NC Political News should hold a detailed article until the meeting materials, adopted rules or numbered memoranda are publicly available.
