Rep. Jon Hardister Officially Files to Run for NC Labor Commissioner

Raleigh, NC- Rep. Jon Hardister (R-Guilford) officially filed his candidacy with the NC State Board of Election to seek the office of NC Labor Commissioner.

Hardister is currently serving his sixth term in the NC House representing District 59 in Guilford County. He is in his fourth term in House leadership as a Deputy Majority Whip. Hardister announced in January that he would be seeking the office of Labor Commissioner after Commissioner Josh Dobson announced his retirement. Commissioner Dobson has endorsed Hardister to succeed him in office.

In addition to his service in the NC House, Harister has over 20 years of experience in the private sector. He has experience in real estate construction and his family also owns a small mortgage business.

Hardister has received an outpouring of support across the state for his campaign, including the endorsements of Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler, dozens of state legislators, sheriffs, and town mayors. He has also been endorsed by former NC Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest.

Hardister stated:

It is a privilege to have the opportunity to seek the office of Labor Commissioner. During my time in the legislature, I have worked to lower taxes, reform the tax code, balance our budget, and promote workforce development. I am proud of the work we have done to make North Carolina the best state for business, and I will bring this same mindset to the Department of Labor.

In addition to more than a decade of public service, I have over 20 years of experience in the private sector. This has taught me the importance of hard work, accountability, and meeting the bottom line. These are important attributes that I will put to use as our state’s next Labor Commissioner.

It has been a pleasure to travel this state over the last 11 months on the campaign trail. I have enjoyed meeting with voters, listening to their concerns, and discussing our vision for the Department of Labor. The best part of a campaign is the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and learn what is important to them.

As Labor Commissioner, I will work to expand our workforce, ensure timely and fair inspections, enhance workplace safety, and prevent overreach from the federal governments. We will ensure that our department is operating efficiently and that the needs of workers and businesses are being met. It would be an honor to serve, and I am looking forward to meeting people on the campaign trail in the months ahead.
