Governor Cooper Asks Court to Overturn Unconstitutional Legislative Power Grab

RALEIGH: Governor Cooper filed a lawsuit against Republican legislative leaders in Wake County Superior Court, challenging provisions in Senate Bill 512 that clearly violate the separation of powers established in the North Carolina Constitution. Governor Cooper also requested a temporary restraining order to prevent many of the provisions in Senate Bill 512 from going into effect immediately until their constitutionality is resolved. 

Governor Cooper announces more grants to rural communities to attract 169 new jobs and nearly $50 Million in private investment

The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) has approved nine grant requests to local governments totaling $2,221,694, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The requests include commitments to create a total of 191 jobs, 22 of which were previously announced. The public investment in these projects will attract more than $49.5 million in private investment.

Secretary Mandy Cohen to step down as DHHS Secretary

Governor Roy Cooper announced today that North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. will be stepping down from the agency after 5 years of service to the state. Governor Cooper has appointed Kody Kinsley, current NCDHHS Chief Deputy Secretary for Health and lead for COVID operations, to succeed her beginning January 1st.

The Governor also signed an Executive Order to extend the Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic/Latino Affairs.
