RALEIGH — North Carolina government and court officials posted several statewide updates this week, including new election guidance, a court commission meeting on legal access, legislative committee work and a public hearing on child support guidelines.
State elections board warns voters to verify mailings and registration information
The North Carolina State Board of Elections is advising voters to review voter registration drives and election-related mailings carefully as the 2026 midterm election approaches. The board said unsolicited communications can sometimes confuse recipients and urged voters to rely on official state and county election offices for registration status, deadlines and voting information. Supreme Court commission to study legal deserts
The Supreme Court of North Carolina’s Commission on Practice Innovation will hold its first meeting June 5 at the North Carolina State Bar headquarters in Raleigh. The commission will study legal deserts, licensure models, paralegal and paraprofessional regulation and possible ways to expand access to legal services while protecting the public. Senate committees take up worker safety, UNC and contracting bills
The North Carolina General Assembly’s June 4 legislative calendar listed Senate Finance Committee discussion of the Eden/Duke Energy Annexation Agreement, UNC Omnibus & Capital Contracting Law Changes and Physical Therapy Practice Act Mods. The Senate Rules and Operations Committee calendar listed the Worker Safety Act of 2026, Prohibit Litigation Invest/Amend WC Benefits and a General Statutes Commission update involving the Funeral Board and Department of Insurance licensing. Public hearing scheduled on child support guidelines
The Conference of Chief District Court Judges scheduled a June 4 public hearing in Raleigh on North Carolina’s child support guidelines. The hearing was set for 7 to 8 p.m. at the Highway Building Auditorium, with sign-in beginning at 6:45 p.m. Source: North Carolina Judicial Branch.
