North Carolina boards and commissions are preparing to address election administration, water infrastructure and public education, while the state treasurer has made a new appointment to a statewide economic-development board.
State elections board to consider absentee-ballot guidance
The State Board of Elections will meet remotely at 9 a.m. Wednesday to consider appointments to fill county election board vacancies and guidance to county officials through numbered memoranda concerning absentee ballots. The tentative agenda does not identify the affected county vacancies or describe the proposed absentee-ballot guidance. Meeting documents are expected to be posted as they become available. Water committee could advance 2026 infrastructure plan
The Master Plan Update Committee of the State Water Infrastructure Authority will meet Wednesday to review Section 8 of the proposed 2026 State Water Infrastructure Master Plan and consider approving the plan for review by the full authority. The State Water Infrastructure Authority awards state and federal funding for water and wastewater projects and develops recommendations for maximizing loans and grants. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon and will be available remotely. Source
Public education commission meets Monday
The North Carolina Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Monday at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. The commission was established to develop recommendations on public education policy, including student outcomes and the state’s ability to recruit and retain educators. State law provided $300,000 in nonrecurring funding to the Friday Institute to administer the commission. A livestream is listed on the General Assembly’s legislative calendar, but a detailed meeting agenda was not located before publication. Source
Briner appoints Teague to economic-development board
State Treasurer Brad Briner has appointed Ben Teague, vice president of strategic development at Biltmore Farms, to the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina board. The partnership recruits businesses, supports existing employers and provides assistance to small and startup companies. The Department of State Treasurer said the current state budget gave Briner authority to select two members of the board. Teague previously led the Asheville-Buncombe County Economic Development Coalition and serves on the NCInnovation board. Source
