RALEIGH — North Carolina officials posted several statewide government updates in recent days, including rural EMS grants, election rulemaking, legislative committee meetings, coastal policy and county unemployment data.

NCDHHS awards $10 million for rural EMS workforce

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced June 8 that it will provide $10 million to 39 local EMS agencies through the NC Rural Health Transformation Program. The department said the grants will support mobile integrated health programs, strengthen the EMS workforce and expand access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment in rural communities. State Board holds photo ID rules hearing

The State Board of Elections scheduled a 2 p.m. June 9 public hearing on proposed amendments to rules governing photo identification for in-person and absentee-by-mail voting. Public comments on the proposed photo ID rules are accepted through July 14. Source: N.C. State Board of Elections.

Legislative committees meet on digital assets, child care and tax policy

The N.C. General Assembly calendar for June 9 listed House and Senate committee meetings on several statewide issues. The House Finance Committee agenda included House Bill 920, the Virtual Currency Kiosk Consumer Protection Act, and House Bill 1029, the NC Digital Asset and Stablecoin Act. The House Health Committee agenda included Senate Bill 528, Child Care Regulatory Reforms & Flexibilities. Coastal Resources Commission to meet June 18 in New Bern

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission is scheduled to meet June 18 at the DoubleTree New Bern Riverfront in New Bern. The Department of Environmental Quality said members of the public may attend in person or online, and the CRC Science Panel will present findings on oceanfront hardened structures. Source: N.C. April unemployment rates fell in 57 counties

The N.C. Department of Commerce reported June 3 that unemployment rates decreased in 57 counties, increased in eight and remained unchanged in 35 in April. Hyde County had the highest unemployment rate at 5.7%, while Currituck County had the lowest at 2.7%. The not seasonally adjusted statewide rate was 3.4%. Source: N.C. Department of Commerce.
