State elections officials met Monday, campaign-finance rule comments remain open, and several state boards and commissions have meetings or rulemaking items ahead.

Governor’s student safety council meets in Raleigh

The Governor’s Advisory Council for Student Safety and Well-Being met Monday in Raleigh, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety. The council, established by executive order, is charged with recommending and implementing school safety and student well-being solutions, advising state agencies, working with local communities and sharing best practices. DPS said public comment is accepted online.

Marine Fisheries Commission opens comment period on Atlantic bonito rule

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission opened public comment Monday on a proposed rule that would set a five-fish recreational bag limit for Atlantic bonito. The proposal also would allow the director of the Division of Marine Fisheries to implement additional management measures by proclamation with prior commission consent. A WebEx public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26, and written comments are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 2.

Judicial Branch launches State Constitution Celebration 250 campaign

Chief Justice Paul Newby kicked off the North Carolina Judicial Branch’s State Constitution Celebration 250 campaign in Raleigh, according to the court system. The effort marks the 250th anniversary of North Carolina’s 1776 Constitution and the state’s early role in constitutional self-government after independence. The Judicial Branch said the campaign will commemorate the milestone later this year.
