North Carolina political and government activity this week includes a post-August legislative schedule, an unresolved hemp regulation bill and a State Board of Elections meeting on November election plans.
General Assembly sets reconvening dates through December
Senate Joint Resolution 1091 was ordered enrolled Wednesday after the House passed it 78-28. The adjournment resolution says lawmakers will reconvene during several windows between Aug. 31 and Dec. 18, with limits on what can be considered during those sessions, including veto overrides, election laws, appointments, litigation-related measures, constitutional amendments, conference reports and certain concurrence matters.
Hemp-derived consumables bill remains in House Rules
House Bill 328, titled “Regulate Hemp-Derived Consumables,” remains in the House Rules, Calendar, and Operations Committee after being re-referred July 30. The bill page lists subjects including hemp products, controlled substances, minors, law enforcement, licensing, retailing, manufacturing, school property and public safety.
State Board of Elections meets on November early voting plans
The North Carolina State Board of Elections scheduled a remote meeting for 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6. The tentative agenda includes county board member vacancy appointments, consideration of November general election early voting plans unanimously adopted by county boards, an initial declaratory ruling request and guidance to counties through numbered memos.
