State Board of Elections to meet Wednesday

The North Carolina State Board of Elections is scheduled to meet in person at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the State Board offices on the third floor of the Dobbs Building, 430 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh.

The tentative agenda includes campaign finance penalty waiver requests, county board member vacancy appointments if needed, notice of settlement in Republican National Committee et al. v. N.C. State Board of Elections, a county board member complaint evidentiary hearing involving Cohen and Flynn of Wake County, initial consideration of board member complaints involving Cumberland, Anson and Pitt counties, a closed session and a declaratory ruling request related to campaign finance.

Text and chat added to North Carolina Peer Warmline

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced that text and chat options are now available for the North Carolina Peer Warmline, a 24/7 crisis response service operated by Promise Resource Network.

The NC Peer Warmline, available at 1-855-PEERS-NC, is staffed by certified peer support specialists with personal experience involving mental health or substance use disorders. NCDHHS said the warmline received more than 130,000 calls from March 2024 through February 2026. The department said almost 40 percent of callers were referred to a mental health provider, while 29 percent received help with sheltering.

Rural Infrastructure Authority approves more than $4 million in grants

The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority approved eight grant requests totaling $4,085,208 for local governments, according to the Department of Commerce.

The grants are tied to projects expected to create 396 jobs, including 300 previously announced jobs. Commerce said additional investment from private and public sources is expected to reach more than $126.2 million.

The awards include Building Reuse Program grants in Lexington, Gaston County, Rockingham County and Taylorsville; a Community Development Block Grant-Economic Development award for Hendersonville; an Industrial Development Fund-Utility Account award for Caldwell County; and Rural Downtown Economic Development grants for Badin and Asheboro.
