Environmental regulators, labor officials and legislative committees have statewide updates this week.
NC lawmakers return Monday. The Utilities Commission also has hearings scheduled on Duke Energy Carolinas’ rate case and a proposed South Carolina natural-gas plant.
North Carolina General Assembly returns Monday
The North Carolina House and Senate are scheduled to convene at noon Monday, July 27.
The legislative calendar also lists a virtual meeting of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education at 10 a.m., a Governmental Operations subcommittee meeting on prisons at 1 p.m. and a Senate State and Local Government Committee meeting at 4 p.m.
The posted calendar does not by itself establish that a bill will receive a final vote. Agendas and schedules may be revised.

Duke Energy Carolinas rate hearing continues Tuesday
The North Carolina Utilities Commission is scheduled to hold an expert-witness hearing at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, in Raleigh on Duke Energy Carolinas’ application to adjust rates and charges and continue performance-based regulation.
The proceeding is listed as Docket E-7, Sub 1329.
The commission, rather than the parties to the case, will make the final decision on any rate changes.

Commission to hear Duke proposal for South Carolina gas plant
The Utilities Commission is scheduled to hold an expert-witness hearing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, on Duke Energy Carolinas’ request for a determination of need involving a proposed 1,365-megawatt natural-gas combined-cycle generating facility in Anderson County, South Carolina.
The proposal is being reviewed in North Carolina because the generating facility would be part of Duke Energy Carolinas’ system serving customers in the state.
The proceeding is listed as Docket E-7, Sub 1357.
