Meta trial begins in multistate case led in part by Jackson
Opening arguments began Tuesday in a bipartisan multistate case against Meta, according to Attorney General Jeff Jackson’s office. Jackson and 28 other attorneys general allege that Meta designed Instagram and Facebook to be addictive to children and misled the public about harms connected to its platforms. The attorneys general are asking the court to require Meta to stop unlawful practices, comply with child and consumer protection laws, pay penalties and give up profits tied to alleged violations. Food banks receive first egg delivery from antitrust settlement
North Carolina food banks have received the first delivery in a series expected to total nearly 3 million eggs, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The delivery follows a settlement with Cal-Maine, Hickman’s Family Farms and Versova over allegations that the companies violated antitrust laws by coordinating on bidding and manipulating a key egg-pricing benchmark. The companies will donate 50 million eggs to food banks nationwide as part of the settlement. Source: NCDOJ
Campaign finance rule comments remain open
The State Board of Elections is accepting public comments through Aug. 31 on four sets of proposed campaign finance rules and amendments. The proposals involve building funds, campaign finance complaints and investigations, threshold amendments and waiver rules. Source: NCSBE
