Governor Cooper Announces 14 Grants to Attract 262 New Jobs and $31.5 Million in Private Investment to Rural Communities

The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) has approved 14 grant requests to local governments totaling $6,644,500, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The requests include commitments to create a total of 324 jobs, 62 of which were previously announced. The public investment in these projects will attract more than $31.5 million in private investment.

New Senate ad misleads the voters

Mark Robinson, North Carolina’s Republican lieutenant governor, has just endorsed U.S. Rep. Ted Budd over former Gov. Pat McCrory in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate. In a new ad promoting Budd’s candidacy, Robinson speaks directly to the camera. “Pat’s a nice guy — but he’s no conservative,” Robinson says, alleging among other charges that “Pat put liberals in charge of state textbooks.”

Cawthorn cited for having loaded gun at Charlotte airport

On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-11th District, was cited for possession of a dangerous weapon after having a loaded handgun at the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Police say that Cawthorn cooperated with authorities after an agent found the weapon in a bag and Cawthorn said it was his.

N.C. Dems advocate legalizing marijuana on ‘420’

On April 20, or "4/20," which in the world of marijuana smokers is like a national holiday, prominent N.C. Democrats celebrated the day themselves by calling for the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana and for clemency for those currently in prison for marijuana charges. The term "4/20" was popularized by the Grateful Dead as a time some of their fans would smoke together after school.
