North Carolina Recognized for Efforts to Combat the Opioid Crisis and Save Lives

Attorney General Josh Stein and North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) Executive Director Kevin Leonard today announced that North Carolina received an award for excellence for its application of the Principles for Use of Fund from the Opioid Litigation developed by a coalition of organizations led by faculty and staff at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The coalition tracks how states and municipalities work to effectively and equitably distribute opioid settlement funds.

Attorney General Josh Stein filed a friend-of-the-court brief to protect the provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) that guarantees millions of Americans access to critical preventive care. As of 2020, more than 150 million people were enrolled in health insurance plans that covered preventive health care services at no cost to the patient.

Tim Moore Responds to SCOTUS Moore v. Harper Decision

Today the Supreme Court of the United States issued their decision in the Moore v. Harper case. NC House Speaker Tim Moore said, "Today the United States Supreme Court has determined that state courts may rule on questions of state law even if it has an impact on federal elections law. Ultimately, the question of the role of state courts in congressional redistricting needed to be settled and this decision has done just that. I am proud of the work we did to pursue this case to the nation's highest court."

Ross, Sánchez, Raskin, Jacobs, Watson Coleman Introduce Proxy Voting Amendment to the House Rules

Representative Deborah Ross (NC-02) led Representatives Linda Sánchez (CA-38), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Sara Jacobs (CA-51), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) in introducing an amendment to the House Rules for the 118th Congress that would allow Members to proxy vote if they, their spouse, or their dependents are experiencing serious medical conditions, including a pregnancy-related condition.
