State Treasurer Dale R. Folwell, CPA, and the State Health Plan (Plan) Board of Trustees today approved, for the sixth straight year, no premium rate increases for State Health Plan active members for the 2024 benefit year, which begins January 1, 2024.
A resolution introduced by Brunswick County Commissioner Frank Williams was adopted at the National Association of Counties (NaCo) annual conference in Travis County, TX on Monday, July 24, 2023. North Carolina has enjoyed more than a decade of conservative governance. It’s brought our state impressive growth and widespread acclaim. The General Assembly has reformed and reduced state taxes, lightened the regulatory burden, invested in infrastructure, and promoted choice and competition in public services, among other accomplishments.
The State Board of Elections in North Carolina has approved ninety-nine types of student and government IDs for use in voting, in line with the state's new voter ID requirement. IDs from all UNC System public universities and many private institutions, including Duke University and Davidson College, are included. These approved IDs are valid for voting through December 31, 2024.
North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore, who began his record fifth term as speaker in January, has announced that he will not seek reelection. The decision was made several months ago, and Moore is currently considering his future endeavors.
In North Carolina, the political label “conservative” is more popular than the terms “liberal” or “progressive.” In the most recent John Locke Foundation poll, for example, 46% of likely voters described themselves as conservatives, with 25% picking the liberal label and the rest either “moderate” or nothing at all. If we broaden out to include all North Carolinians, not just those who reliably vote, the gap shrinks a bit. But conservatives still form a plurality — and they significantly outnumber liberals.
