Riggs asks Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to protect voters' rights
Raleigh, NC – Justice Allison Riggs asked the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to act to ensure that the federal law questions in Griffin v. State Board of Elections are heard in federal court. She also asked the court to deny Judge Griffin’s request to toss more than 60,000 North Carolinians’ ballots.
Attorney General Jeff Jackson Files $5.5 Million Medicaid Fraud Lawsuit
RALEIGH – Attorney General Jeff Jackson and United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Dena King filed a federal lawsuit against Benson I. Ejindu for allegedly submitting false claims to the North Carolina Medicaid program. Attorney General Jackson and U.S. Attorney King are seeking more than $5.5 million in damages plus substantial additional civil penalties.

Dr. Devdutta “Dev” Sangvai was sworn in as the new Secretary for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025. Dr. Sangvai was selected by Governor Josh Stein to lead the department as the state’s 19th Secretary for Health and Human Services. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Dorothea Dix Park where the department is currently headquartered.

RALEIGH — In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, student performance fell across much of the United States. According to a new study of 2022 math and reading scores, however, North Carolina students suffered one of the country’s biggest tumbles.
North Carolina's November County and Area Employment Figures Released
Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 85 counties in November 2024, decreased in 12, and remained unchanged in three. Mitchell County had the highest unemployment rate at 8.9 percent while Orange and Currituck Counties each had the lowest at 2.9 percent. Fourteen of the state’s metro areas experienced rate increases and one decreased.
