RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor (OSA) has released a Preliminary Special Report on the security contracts for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS). The report, conducted in response to the murder of Iryna Zarutska on one of the CATS’s train cars, examined the security contract history of the CATS, the fluctuations in security personnel for the CATS, and how solicitation for security contracts was guided by a “Charlotte Business Inclusion” requirement.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Today, the North Carolina General Assembly passed House Bill 125, “Continuing Budget Operations.” The bill includes “The DAVE Act” provision, which requires the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor to establish a “Division of Accountability, Value, and Efficiency.” The division will assess the continued need for each state agency and whether cuts need to be made.

Today, State Auditor Dave Boliek filed a response in support of a petition from Senate Leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Destin Hall disputing the recent Superior Court ruling blocking transfer of elections board appointments from the governor to the state auditor.
