Food banks receive eggs under antitrust settlement

The North Carolina Department of Justice said Tuesday that Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC received nearly 300,000 eggs as part of an antitrust settlement with three egg producers. DOJ said the deliveries are part of a series totaling nearly 3 million eggs for North Carolina food banks and stem from allegations that Cal-Maine, Hickman’s Family Farms and Versova violated antitrust law by coordinating on information used to set egg price benchmarks.

Beaufort County boat project receives OneNC grant

Gov. Josh Stein’s office said Wednesday that Boater’s World Manufacturing Group plans to create 179 jobs and invest more than $6 million in a Chocowinity boat manufacturing campus. The governor’s office said a performance-based $375,000 One North Carolina Fund grant will support the project, with payments contingent on job creation and investment targets and matching local government participation.
