Two state environmental regulatory bodies have scheduled public meetings for Aug. 4 involving oil and gas oversight and water-quality policy.
Oil and Gas Commission schedules Aug. 4 meeting
The North Carolina Oil and Gas Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Raleigh.
The public may attend in person, participate online or join by telephone. The in-person meeting will be held in the ground-floor hearing room of the Archdale Building, 512 N. Salisbury St.
The commission is responsible for adopting rules governing oil and gas exploration in North Carolina. Its authority includes regulating well spacing, identifying areas where drilling may occur and limiting oil and gas production.
An agenda and supporting documents are expected to be posted on the commission’s website before the meeting.

Water Quality Committee calls special meeting
The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission’s Water Quality Committee will hold a special virtual meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Members of the public may participate online or by telephone. DEQ will also provide an in-person listening station in the Archdale Building’s ground-floor hearing room in Raleigh.
The meeting agenda and supporting materials had not been posted when DEQ issued the notice.
The Environmental Management Commission adopts rules governing the protection of North Carolina’s air and water resources. Its responsibilities cover regulatory work involving air quality, land resources, waste management and water resources.
