State officials join a regional anti-fraud partnership as election and environmental regulators prepare for public meetings.
Auditor joins regional fraud-enforcement partnership
State Auditor Dave Boliek joined state and federal officials from seven Southeastern states for an inaugural fraud-enforcement partnership meeting July 30.
More than 40 officials and federal prosecutors attended the meeting in Columbia, South Carolina. The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor said the partnership will focus on improving coordination involving fraud against taxpayer-funded programs, including Medicaid, unemployment benefits, SNAP and child care programs.
The participating states were Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Campaign-finance rule hearing scheduled Monday
State Board of Elections staff will conduct an in-person public hearing at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, concerning four sets of proposed campaign-finance rules and amendments.
The proposals address building funds, campaign-finance complaints and investigations, certification thresholds and waivers. The public-comment periods remain open through Aug. 31.
The hearing will be held in the State Board’s meeting room on the third floor of the Dobbs Building, 430 N. Salisbury St. in Raleigh.
Environmental commissions schedule Aug. 4 meetings
The Environmental Management Commission’s Water Quality Committee will hold a special virtual meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. DEQ said an in-person listening station will be available at the Archdale Building in Raleigh. The meeting agenda had not been posted when this brief was prepared.
The North Carolina Oil and Gas Commission will meet at 9 a.m. the same day in the Archdale Building. Members of the public may attend in person, online or by telephone. The commission adopts rules governing oil and gas exploration, well spacing and areas where drilling may occur.
