RALEIGH — Today’s briefs include DEQ water-quality notifications, the next NCGA calendar date, June labor-market figures and statewide school nutrition workshops.

DEQ notifies downstream utilities of elevated 1,4-dioxane levels
The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality said elevated 1,4-dioxane levels were detected in a July 10 sample from the Asheboro Wastewater Treatment Plant discharge into Hasketts Creek, which empties into the Deep River within the Cape Fear River Basin. DEQ said it notified downstream drinking water utilities, including systems serving Bladen, Brunswick, Cape Fear, Dunn, Fayetteville, Harnett, Pender, Sanford and others. Source: NC DEQ

NCGA calendar shows July 27 return

North Carolina unemployment rate fell to 3.6% in June
The N.C. Department of Commerce said North Carolina’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.6% in June, down 0.1 percentage point from May’s revised rate. Commerce said the national rate also declined 0.1 percentage point, to 4.2%. Source: NC Commerce

DPI highlights statewide school nutrition workshops
The N.C. Department of Public Instruction said school nutrition professionals from across North Carolina are participating in regional NC K-12 Culinary Institute workshops this summer. The agency said the workshops are intended to help increase the appeal of school meals. Source: NC DPI
