State audit finds 19 issues in review of $28 billion in federal grants

The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor has released its 2025 statewide single audit, reporting 19 findings and $342,093 in questioned costs in its review of $28 billion in federal grants spent by North Carolina entities during fiscal year 2025. The audit says the state spent $43.9 billion in federal awards overall for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025, with Medicaid accounting for more than half of that total.

Attorney General challenges mail-in voting order, says military and absentee voters could be harmed

North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced Friday that he is challenging a presidential executive order on mail-in voting, arguing the order could interfere with how states administer elections and put some absentee ballots at risk. In the release, Jackson said the order could affect hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians who vote by mail, including active-duty military members and voters casting ballots after disasters.

As a child of the 1980s, I have always been a fan of video games.  The release of the Nintendo when I was about 9 years old led to months of begging my parents for the system – but it didn’t arrive until a couple years later. Attorney General Jeff Jackson Calls on Congress to Pass Bipartisan Legislation That Would Regulate Deadly Drug Xylazine

RALEIGH – Attorney General Jeff Jackson today joined a bipartisan group of attorneys general urging Congress to pass the Combating Illicit Xylazine Act (S. 545/ H.R. 1266). The bipartisan bill would classify xylazine as a Schedule III substance under federal law, which would help prevent the illicit use of the dangerous drug and ultimately save lives. The cosponsors include North Carolina Senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd and Representatives Deborah Ross, Don Davis, Addison McDowell, Brad Knott, David Rouzer, Valerie Foushee, and Tim Moore.

Governor Stein Announces Halifax Resolves to Return to N.C. for First Time Since 1776

HALIFAX, N.C. — America’s first formal call for independence, a document known as the Halifax Resolves, is coming home to North Carolina for a short time as part of the state’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, Governor Josh Stein announced today. The document will be exhibited in the new visitor center at Halifax State Historic Site from April 10 through Oct. 6.
